01/12/2006: "Alito Hearings"

I'm not sure which perturbs me more, the fact that Alito was a member of an alumni group lobbying to prohibit women and monorities from attending Princeton, or the fact that he cannot seem to remember being a member of that organization. After all, he did put it on his resume that had been submitted to the Justice Department under Reagan.

The fact we all bend the truth when it suits our purpose doesn’t make it any easier to swallow, but perhaps as a woman who was raised in the early years of feminism, I was taught not to expect much different from some men. (Not all men, but some men - it took me years of practice to be able to make that distinction).
Let’s face it - Alito, I am guessing, was closer to being a minority in the 70's then he is today. I suppose he joined the ultraconservative group to hide his minority status. “I’m not a minority because I’m one of you.” As well, overwhelmingly to “keep the woman down.” It just fits so well with proudly trying to take away a woman’s right to choice over her body.
