05/05/2007: "Republican Debate *sigh*"

I TiVoed the Republican debate the other night, due to excessive work. Upon finally watching it, I got a nice surprise when, presented with the question who in the field of candidates does not believe in evolution, three people raised their hands. That's right: 30% of the current Presidential candidates running from the Grand 'Ol Party do not believe in evolution. Among them are Sen. Sam Brownback (KS), former Gov. Mike Huckabee (AR), and Rep. Tom Tancredo (CO)-- none of whom are serious candidates, really. Tancredo is just in to get some air for his pet issue (immigration), and Brownback doesn't surprise me; it wouldn't surprise me if he thought that one could get AIDS by watching Will and Grace. But still--isn't this a sorry statement on the caliber of candidate that we are getting from the other side?
